The Shorty: Best of the Rest

This is the part of our program where golf fans watch the rest of the players thrust, parry and jockey for the trophies on the world’s tours, unsure when when Jason Day, Jordan Spieth or Rory McIlroy – all of whom are nursing Masters hangovers of one sort or another – will play again.

In the meantime, Branden Grace solidified his place on the world’s stage by winning the RBC Heritage, outrunning Luke Donald around the turn and down the stretch on Sunday. It is Grace’s first victory on the PGA Tour to go with seven on the European Tour. For those who don’t remember, Grace had a chance to win last year’s U.S. Open, finishing tied for fourth after a double bogey on the 16th on Sunday.

At the Open de España, Sergio García was about the only European star to play and he was there as host. Somehow, a U.S. Open broke out as Andrew Johnston – who calls himself “Beef” – won his first European Tour event.

As for Danny Willett, he was home in England living the good life while changing nappies (diapers) on the couple’s newborn.
